Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon
Standard Chartered Bank has sponsored the Hong Kong Marathon for over 10 years, starting from 1997. Through this sponsorship, the Bank promotes a healthy lifestyle and the marathon spirit in Hong Kong's community.
The annual race has attracted high participation from local and international runners and has become the largest participatory sporting event in Hong Kong, and a source of pride for Hong Kong's community.
- The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon is the final leg of the "Greatest Race on Earth". Every year, it attracts national teams from various countries competing in the race for national glory and prize money. (The "Greatest Race on Earth" (GROE) is the world's only marathon team relay series, run across four Standard Chartered Marathons in Nairobi, Singapore, Mumbai and Hong Kong.)
- The event has also raised over US$2 million for "Seeing is Believing" and the "Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled".
- With the continued support and endorsement of the Education Bureau, the "Marathon 101 Education Programme" allows primary and secondary students to participate in the Marathon through cross-curriculum project-based teaching kits and extra-curricular activities. In 2008, more than 15,000 students from 580 schools joined the campaign.
