Standard Chartered Arts in the Park Mardi Gras 2011Themed with the famous story of Alice in Wonderland, Standard Chartered Arts in the Park Mardi Gras has drawn close to 70,000 visitors to the Victoria Park this weekend to join in the fantasy journey of Alice, breaking the record made last year. Organised by the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation (HKYAF) with the support of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, the theme of Standard Chartered Arts in the Park Mardi Gras 2011 is inspired by the novel Alice in Wonderland. 3,000 young people worked with local artists to create eight giant puppets of 8-15 feet tall and over a thousand pieces extravagant artworks in over 3 months. They demonstrated to visitors their creativity and vitality in the grand finale parade today. This is also the first time for the event to enlist UK-based carnival artists to create a giant puppet for the event. In addition, over 500 young people performed on stage at the two-day event. |
