Seeing is Believing
There are 45 million blind people in the world. 80% of blindness is avoidable.
Seeing is Believing is Standard Chartered's global fund raising campaign aiming to help eradicate avoidable blindness. Key milestones:
- Launched in 2003 to celebrate the Bank's 150th anniversary.
- In Hong Kong, we have partnered with ORBIS and raised over HK$20 million since 2003 for eye care projects in Mainland China.
- From 2008 to date, Seeing is Believing China projects have provided screening and examinations for approximately 210,000 people, medical treatments for 75,000 patients, 7,000 eye surgeries and training to over 600 doctors and medical professionals.
- In July 2009, a fully equipped, child friendly paediatric eye care centre has been established at Dalian He Eye Hospital. Over 43,000 children were screened by outreach team and 6,600 were medically treated.
- By 2020, we aim to raise a total of US$100 million for Seeing is Believing.
