What is spyware?
  • Spyware is any technology or software residing on your PC that covertly gathers information. In most cases, spyware is installed without the user's awareness or informed consent. Spyware tracks both system and personal information such as the type of operating system, detailed tracking of your internet surfing habits and harvests your personal files.
  • We would like to warn all Standard Chartered Online customers to exercise caution when using any third party software program which claims to be able to speed up your internet connections. Such "free" software program could indirectly redirect your internet session through their own server and may potentially gain access to your password, credit card numbers and other personal details.
  • The most common methods used to trick you into installing spyware include opening of spam emails, clicking on deceptive pop-ups, downloading free utilities, games, toolbars, media players, file sharing programs and visiting corrupt websites etc. Thus, it is imperative that you adopt measures to protect your PC from potential spyware attacks.
How to protect yourself from spyware?
  • Beware of spyware. Do not install any software that monitors your internet activities into the PC you use to access online banking services.
  • Install, update and run anti-spyware programs on a regular basis.
  • Update your PC with latest security patch.
